We will devote our morning to the Parco Archeologico della Neapolis which boasts the finest classical ruins of Syracuse. In fact, it was here in Neapolis (one of the city’s five district) that civil and religious buildings were constructed. The most famous was and still is the magnificent Theatre (dateing from the 5th century BC), one of the best preserved Greek theatres (and also the largest) in Sicily. We will visit also the Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi: its rich archaeological collection, consisting of more than 18,000 artifacts, makes it one of the most interesting museums in the region.
The cast of entry to the park and museum is 13,50 euro.
In the afternoon we visit Ortigia ( Siracuse`s historic centre) which is an island connected to the mainland by two bridges. In this area, easily explored on foot you will find an intricate network of alleyways. The main monuments and sights of the city are found here as well as many cafes, taverns and restaurants. From here we move to Pizza Duomo, the central square in Syracuse, venue and outdoor living area overlooked by the richly decorated Baroque palaces and Cathedral.
The cost to enter the Cathedral is 2 euros
